Two types of equipment that all industrial farmers need
Industrial farmers need a wide variety of equipment to run their businesses. Here are two of the most important types of equipment they need.
Farm water tanks
Most industrial farms use enormous quantities of water every day. Water is needed for a number of important activities, such as irrigating crops, hydrating livestock and cleaning farm equipment.
Given how important a role water plays in the day-to-day running of a typical farm, every industrial farmer should have at least one large farm water tank on their premises.
Farm water tanks can enable a farmer to collect and store rainwater that falls onto the roofs of their sheds and barns. They can then use this water during periods of dry weather.
Storing rainwater in these tanks is not only environmentally-friendly (as it reduces the amount of tap water that farmers need to use to run their farms) but is also great for a farm's profitability, as it can drastically reduce the cost of the farm's water bills.
When shopping for this type of tank, it is important for farmers to ensure that they choose one which is made from a durable material that will not degrade when exposed to heat or moisture. The material from which it is made should also be quite heavy so that the tank will not be knocked over if it is kept outdoors during a hurricane.
Feed bins
Feed bins are an essential form of equipment for any industrial farmer who keeps livestock on their farm.
The quality of stock feed can deteriorate rapidly when improperly stored. Exposure to rain can, for example, result in the feed developing mould. The mycotoxins in this mould could make livestock ill if they consume the contaminated feed.
Similarly, stock feed that is stored in a container or shed which is not fully sealed could potentially be accessed by rodents, who could then contaminate the feed with their urine or droppings. Again, ingestion of this stock feed could make a farm animal very ill.
Using high-quality feed bins can help to keep stock feed in excellent condition and thus enable a farmer to avoid the expense and stress of dealing with sick livestock.
These bins are made from robust materials (such as galvanised steel) and have lockable lids, which not only prevent the feed from getting wet and subsequently developing mould but which also prevent rodents from gaining access to the food housed inside.
