Supplies to Consider for Your Welding Student
If you have a child, spouse, or loved one that has decided on a career in welding you may want to help them in some way. If that is the case, then you may want to consider buying them some welding supplies. Here are a few of the supplies that may be well received by the welding student in your life and what you need to know about buying each one:
Cutting Torch Set
If you are looking for a gift that will be suitable now and will last years into your welding students career, then a cutting torch set may be ideal. These sets come with a carrying case and several of the cutting torch related items your student will need. Some of the items include copper pipes, ignitor, tips, and joints. More advanced kits may include more items, as well as specialty items if they are geared for MIG or ARC welding specifically.
Gear Pack
Your welding student will have a lot of items to carry. Some of these are large, such as a welding helmet and shield. You can make it a bit easier on them by purchasing a gear pack. These gear packs are made similar to backpacks but have a special slot for the helmet and other headgear. They may also have slots for traditional toolkits, flat tool boxes and side pockets for holding other related welding gear or personal items.
These gear packs range in size, so ensure that you are getting the right one by knowing the size of the helmet and headgear if you are not the one purchasing that as well. This will ensure the pack is the right size for the helmet.
Welding Helmet
It's important to keep in mind that with a welding helmet, there are different types based on the type of welding that your student will be handling. Some are made for MIG, while others are made for ARC welding. Some helmets also have varying levels of darkening depending on the type of welding being done as well. The key to remember with buying a helmet is to know the type of welding your student is training for and that the helmet can last them several years. This is their number one piece of safety and the one piece that may not be offered through jobs in the future.
These are just a few of the supplies. Ideally, if you can, you should refer to their supply list and pull items from that list. However, each of the supplies listed here can be used during training, regardless of the type of welding they are doing, as well as on the job after graduation.
